What will you be working on?
Our GPS enabled, solar powered devices are designed to remotely guide cows. These require robust, long-range wireless communication and conservative power consumption. They also require multiple levels of control software in order to record everything about the animal, understand it and act on this information accordingly. We use this to monitor stock health, feed, behaviour and emotion so that farmers can better understand and treat the needs of each animal. We are always pushing to use the latest advancements in technology and want you to be a part of this process. Being a young, dynamic company, there is potential for a person in this role to have a big influence on Halter’s future direction.
High level of collaboration between mechanical and firmware engineers.
Take new or existing subsystems and achieve target BOM cost and product performance requirements.
Own the design, test and optimisation of electronics subsystems.
Design and carry out design verification testing on electronics subsystems.
Create documentation for product assembly, testing and support.
Other miscellaneous projects and tasks that help the hardware team and Halter achieve overarching company goals.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for big thinkers who know how to execute. We’re looking for people who are comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where they will be challenged on a daily basis. To succeed you will need to be able to learn quickly and utilise your own initiative while working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Strong soldering skills. I.e. Can you repeatedly reflow tricky integrated circuits under time pressure?
Very strong circuit design skills. The ability to conceptualise a requested feature and own it from paper to PCB.
Professional proficiency using Altium Designer.
Experience with first principles electronics diagnosis to efficiently find faults and the root cause.
Previous experience designing electronics for long term reliability in a challenging physical environment.
Previous experience in optimising existing or new designs for cost under strict performance criteria. Can you build the best on a budget?
Ability to own tasks and creatively work to achieve tight deadlines.
Experience with radio frequency engineering preferred but not necessary.
Experience with high voltage design and diagnosis preferred but not necessary.
