Every story is unique, and that’s what we love about our team. Your journey at Halter is in your hands.
Before joining Halter, Toby was a litigation lawyer and in-house counsel. Driven by a passion for solving meaningful problems, he made the move to Halter where in only 2.5 years, he advanced from Associate Product Manager to Head of Pasture. His transition to Halter has not only propelled his career but also introduced him to an entirely new field.
Andy joined Halter in 2017 as a Mechanical Engineering graduate. By 2020, he had stepped up to lead the Hardware team, and by 2023, he was promoted to the Executive team as VP of Product & Engineering. Along the way, Andy has tackled some of the most challenging hardware problems the company has encountered.
Dani started her career as an employment lawyer but wanted a role with deeper purpose. Joining Halter allowed her to align with her values, and now, as Strategy & Operations Lead, she tackles diverse challenges daily, helping farmers unlock the potential of their pastures to build healthier farms and, ultimately, a healthier planet.
Ben joined Halter straight out of university—more accurately, while still in university—as the company’s first software engineering hire in 2017. By 2020, he had advanced to Lead Frontend Engineer, and by 2022, he was Head of Product Engineering. Halter’s emphasis on recognising potential and rewarding performance over qualifications has been key to his swift rise, proving that success is driven by results, not credentials.
Max, who co-founded Halter and served as its first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), went on to launch another innovative venture, Vessev. This new startup, backed by Blackbird Ventures, sees Max continuing his role as CTO.

George started as a designer at Halter. He then moved on to work at Eucalyptus, another Blackbird-backed company in Australia, before founding his own venture, MagicBrief. But after seeing an open Deployment Operations Mapping role, he decided to take the plunge and use his epic skills in a context where he could have greater impact. 10 months later, Cedric got the opportunity to switch into our Finance team - where his technical skills and passions collided.
How’s this for a career twist? Mark swapped his cricket bat for agtech after 10 years as a professional cricketer. Now, as a Business Development Manager at Halter, he uses his high-performance skills to help Southland farmers unlock their farm’s potential, diving into a thrilling new field.
Helen, formerly with Xero, joined Halter as Strategy and Growth Manager in June 2022. In just two years, she’s been promoted twice and now serves as Director of Strategy and Growth, leading Halter’s push into new markets.

At Halter, we’re creating technology that impacts the real-world, transforming the farming industry, and driving sustainability. Join us at the forefront of New Zealand tech, where your work will impact the world.
We’re building a top-performing team that thrives at max velocity where bold, informed bets are the norm. With a focus on farmers first, animals always, we empower everyone to be a founder in their role. It’s a privilege to help farmers unlock the full potential of their pasture farms.
Farmers and their animals are the heart of Halter. When creating new products, we start with the farmer experience and work backwards, balancing progress with care. Our first farmer, Frank, trusted us back in 2019, and we made it our mission to ensure he and his cows were well cared for. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about: happy cows and energised farmers loving what they do. Frank shaped Halter’s customer-centric culture, inspiring this particular value that lives us today.
Working at Halter is more than just a job. We hire people who think and act like great founders, taking ownership and showing the highest level of care in everything they do. We're all driven by our mission, focused on the details, and committed to owning our outcomes—without getting bogged down by unnecessary rules. Ownership is a core pillar at Halter; we’re empowered to take initiative, make decisions, and drive impact. We ask that you make decisions as if you’re the founder, guided by this principle: If you wouldn’t want to explain your decision to the entire team, it’s probably not the right one.
As a company, we move swiftly to learn fast, identify risks early, and ultimately outpace our competition. We're aligned through clear direction and context, enabling us to act quickly and precisely. Precisely being the key word here—moving quickly in the wrong direction is as good as standing still. We're constantly asking ourselves, “Does my decision make Halter move faster?”
From the beginning, we’ve set audacious goals—like training a cow to respond to a collar. At Halter, we don’t take no for an answer. We see innovation as crucial to our success, and we know that achieving global change in our industry means taking the road less travelled. We take calculated risks, proactively placing bets, and work smartly to tip the odds in our favour. Not every bet will pay off, but the cost of not taking them is far higher. We start by asking, “How might we?”
To truly capture this value, we have to go back to 2019 and an intern named Lona. A former Halter employee and one of the most grateful people you’ll ever meet, Lona loved his work and was always lifting up those around him. He’s best known at Halter for coining the phrase, “I get to” rather than “I have to.” He even printed it out and stuck it above his desk, ensuring he was always in the right mindset. We get to help farmers. We get to change an industry. We get to work on impactful products that change lives. Our work matters.
Our hiring process is all about getting to know you. The more we understand your unique strengths, the more we can tailor a role that’s just right for you.
Halter is not your normal 9 to 5, and we understand this isn't for everyone. Our team don't just show up to collect a pay check - they care deeply about our mission and having an impact. You can't change an industry without hard work, and we pride ourselves on not settling for less than excellence. Our people are doing the best, most meaningful, work of their lives.

Yes, we do! As an accredited employer, we sponsor work visas, working closely with an immigration specialist. We also offer relocation assistance to help make your move as smooth as possible.
We believe there's no substitute for being co-located, in-person, as much as we can. It means real connection with epic people, fun banter while we work, high impact, fast innovation, and max growth. With this in mind, we feel pretty strongly about being office-first.
